SELKOLLA
We are born from water, myth, and memory.
CONCEPT TRAILER
INSIPIRATION
Selkolla is a dark journey of self-discovery --- a myth out of time and space, suspended in the heart of Iceland's oldest and most mystical geographic landscape.
SYNOPSIS
In this dark fairytale full of myth and metaphor, a woman confronts her family’s dark past and reckons with her own intuition through a series of beautiful, unsettling, and dream-like interactions. As she journeys from her home on top of a glacier, visions guide her toward the sea, where she discovers her own oceanic origins.
A story of reckoning and empowerment, Selkolla brings the audience on a surreal journey of awakening to one’s power.
THE MYTH
Selkolla is a dreamlike journey based on the selkie myth – an ancient story that echoes across cultures, especially in places where livelihoods were tied to the sea.
In the story, a half-human, half-seal creature comes to live on land as a woman after a fisherman steals and locks away her sealskin.
An Icelandic Saga set in the remote Westfjords tells a darker twist on the legend, in which a child is lost and a town is cursed. Selkolla bridges both these folk-tales through merging timelines and thematic elements, as told through the journey of the Selkie's daughter -- the missing child.
